This range of power inverters are specifically designed to connect to a 12 Volt (not 24 Volt) car, truck or boat battery and inverts the power to provide mains electricity. Some Power Inverters connect directly to the battery, while some work through a in-car cigarette lighter. They normally have a 3 pin UK power socket and are used for camping, caravans and boating or anywhere you need to run mains powered items (computers etc.). Different inverters have different outputs (measured in Watts). You need an inverter with enough wattage output to power the device you want to use. Inverters MUST NEVER be connected to mains power.
There are two main kind of inverters: modified sine wave and pure sine wave. The modified sine wave inverters have the advantage of being much cheaper. The pure sine wave inverters more closely mimic the kind of AC current that you get from the mains. Pure Sine Wave Power Inverters work better with inductive loads such as fluorescent lighting and high power quick charge battery chargers. They also produce "cleaner" power, less prone to introducing interference to delicate or sensitive appliances.
DO NOT USE a modified sine wave inverter with fluorescent lighting! fluorescent lights are a problem because they use a capacitive load. Mains fluorescent lighting has a shunt capacitor designed to correct their power factor when the lighting is connected to the mains. When used with a modified sine wave inverter this shunt capacitor can easily overload the inverter. If you need to use an inverter with fluorescent lighting make sure it's a pure sine wave inverter. |

Power inverter 2000W
(updated product)
The biggest inverter in our range - and it's a beastie. This updated version of the 2000W now comes with two 3 pin sockets and will power pretty much anything you would want to plug into a conventional household socket, with perhaps the exception of some rapid heating elements (such as a kettle). The big power draw does mean that it draws a lot of current from your batteries, and the unit is supplied with two sets of thick cables for connection.
Best installed fairly close to the battery bank to keep the cable run short. The unit is very quiet in operation; a cooling fan does kick in if it begins to get hot, but even that is only a quiet whir. When nothing is connected to the inverter, the background power draw is tiny, so there is no need to worry about it draining your batteries.
Please note: The two 3 pin sockets share the total output of 2000w when used together in combination - they do not each power up to 2000w individually.
SUMMARY
- Converts your vehicles 12V DC battery power to a 230V AC power supply capable of running heavy-duty applications.
- For use in most cars, caravans and boats
- Overload and short circuit protection
- Two AC sockets give a combined output of 2000W
- Supplied with battery terminal connectors
- Ratings continuous
