Full-sized hydrogen cars have already made their debut and although not yet ready for prime-time consumer use many manufacturers are showing off their concept cars and prototypes to get consumers excited about the future.
The Hydrocar kit runs on clean hydrogen fuel using a next generation of PEM (Polymer Electrolyte Membrane) reversible fuel cell. You can watch as oxygen and hydrogen gasses are formed in two transparent containers at the back of the vehicle. HydroCar steers independently from it's user once it hits a barrier and cool blue LED lights flash from the cockpit.
The reversible cell combines water electrolysis and fuel cell function into one device. Utilising energy captured by the sun to generate electricity needed for the electrolysis process which creates hydrogen gas to power the vehicle making this 100% clean energy technology.
Kits like the HydroCar inspire competitions like the Shell Eco Marathon- Where innovators and engineers young and old have a chance to design their own prototype vehicle powered by renewable energy and sustainable sources to achieve the most mileage using Shell Petrol as the variable measure reference.
