Introducing a new power technology using mostly water, and drops of ethanol. This innovation could soon charge our portable electronics, and all kinds of remote devices. The Bio energy educational and discovery kit is the first product of its kind, and gives us a close-up view of the possibilities.
Horizon’s new direct ethanol fuel cell is comprised of a small chamber within which the ethanol solution (90% water, 10% ethanol, similar to wine in alcohol content) is in contact with the cell’s membrane on the anode side, while the cathode is open to the ambient air.
Electricity is produced as the wine-like solution slowly turns to vinegar. Once this process is completed, a purge mechanism allows “fresh” ethanol to flow into the reaction chamber, simultaneously expelling the used fuel.
